Charleroi, 09 January 2020 - Brussels South Charleroi Airport closes 2019 with an increase in passenger traffic. 8,221,450 travelers were registered, an increase of 2% compared to the 2018 results.
In the past twelve months, six new routes have been launched from BSCA, including the first two transatlantic routes operated by the airline company Air Belgium. 2019 will have been a year of transition for Brussels South Charleroi Airport, both in terms of its infrastructure and the positioning strategies adopted.
In 2019, growth was continuous, both in terms of departures and arrivals.
4,111,597 passengers took off from BSCA, a jump of 3% compared to 2018.
In the direction of returns, 4,109,853 travelers trod the airport tarmac (+ 2%).
The observation is identical in terms of trade movements.
The latter increased by 2%, reaching more than 28,750 movements.
A total of 57,540 trade movements were therefore counted in 2019.

In 2019, the Mediterranean region was a great success with travelers from Brussels South Charleroi Airport.
Italy was first in the ranking of the most popular passenger destinations, followed by Spain, France and Morocco.
Eastern Europe was also in the top 5 with Romania closing this ranking.
In addition to the increase in passenger traffic, a new company has started operations at Brussels South Charleroi Airport. Since last October, Laudamotion, an Austrian airline, has opened a direct line to Vienna.
This is in addition to the five other lines launched during the year by airlines already active on the BSCA tarmac.

Air Belgium: Fort-de-France Martinique Pointe-à-Pitre Guadeloupe
Laudamotion: Vienna Austria
Wizz Air: Koutaïssi Georgia
Ryanair: Béziers France Tel Aviv Israel

Brussels South Charleroi Airport has undergone a transformation of its infrastructure in order to meet the demands of its travelers.
In order to provide a varied offer, new zones have been created within the terminal.
A third floor, in the international zone, was therefore inaugurated in June 2019, allowing the opening of new points of sale, such as Burger King or Panos.
A 370 square meter terrace, annexed to this new area, also opened its doors to passengers.
As the airport continues to grow, the airport intends to continue to diversify its services.
As an international airport and with a varied clientele, a new comfortable lounge is available to travelers. It is equipped with all the necessary conveniences for the preparation of the business trip.
Broadband connection, relaxation and catering area, international newspapers and magazines, etc.
Everything is designed to guarantee a pleasant passage for travelers.
This new lounge is also accessible to any other public wishing to take advantage of its facilities.
In terms of mobility, Brussels South Charleroi Airport always wants to be more accessible.
To do this, the airport renewed its partnership with the company Flibco.com for a period of 12 years.
The latter launched two new lines last July: BSCA-Antwerp-Breda and BSCA-Liège-Maastricht.
In addition, a Door2Gate service, a shared mobility solution, is offered to travelers from home to the airport.
This service is available to residents of the Brussels-Capital region, its outskirts, Walloon Brabant on the edge of Hainaut.
Finally, for the sake of proximity to its customers, the airport has taken over the operational and commercial management of its six car parks.
In parallel, a digital platform consisting of a new website, an e-commerce section and a mobile application has been launched.
This simplifies the passenger experience, while offering them the latest promotions on airport services, from parking their vehicle at their boarding gate.
The BSCA-Telenet partnership, signed in October 2018, saw its materialization thanks to the implementation of the Smart Parking and the Crowd
Monitoring.

Philippe VERDONCK, Chief Executive Officer of Brussels South Charleroi Airport, says: "We have had a year that has allowed us to initiate the metamorphosis of our airport.
In addition, our
excellent results allow us to position ourselves on the international scene.
With 8.2 million travelers, we are continuing to grow and aim to continue diversifying our offer.
From March 2020, our airport will also be connected to a new city, Nantes.
The latter will be connected to Brussels-Charleroi, at the rate of four weekly flights, from March 29. "
