Events and festivals in Jamaica.

This year events in Jamaica are as colorful and diverse as the island itself.

If you intend to visit the third largest island in the Caribbean, we advise you before leaving to consult the detailed list of events planned for the coming months.
Whether you are a fan of good music, a gourmet or an athlete: throughout the year, there are many opportunities to discover the island and all these joyful events.

Reggae Month (February 2020).
Bob Marley, the reggae icon, was born on February 6, 1945.
In his honor, the government of Jamaica proclaimed February as "Reggae Month".
Across the island, but mainly in Kingston, the "King of Reggae" will be celebrated as it should be with many live concerts. (Www.jariajamaicamusic.com).

Jamaica Rum Festival (February 29 - March 01, 2020).
Hope Gardens, the capital's botanical garden, is the place to discover Jamaican rum for two days.
During this event, the successive stages of production will be exhibited to the public.
We can taste different kinds of rum and mixtures.
Connoisseurs will learn which rum to associate with which dish.
The festival takes place while listening to music produced live by some of the best artists on the island. (Www.jarumfestival.com).

Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Festival (March 21, 2020).
Jamaica is the country where Blue Mountain Coffee, one of the best and most expensive coffee in the world, comes from.
This is celebrated!
The Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Festival shows you the different stages of production: from growing coffee beans to delicious ground coffee.
This is happening in Newcastle, a small town in the Blue Mountains, less than an hour's drive from Kingston by car.

Carnival in Jamaica (January 10 - April 28, 2020).
Jamaica also exuberantly celebrates carnival with colorful sequin costumes, attracting an ever-increasing number of people from all over the island, as well as many tourists.
The highlights of "Carnival in Jamaica" are: Bacchanal Jamaica (www.bacchanaljamaica.com), Jamaica Carnival, Ocho Rios Carnival and Xaymaca International.
A must is the grand parade through the streets of Kingston on April 19.

Kingston City Marathon (March 15, 2020).
The start of the second Kingston City Marathon will be given on March 15, 2020.
During the Kingston City Marathon in 2015, nearly 1,000 athletes took part in the various events: the 5 and 10 km as well as the half-marathon.
In 2019, it was an entire marathon where competitors crossed the capital along the many tourist attractions (www.kingstoncityrun.com).

Jakes off-road Triathlon (April 25, 2020).
The oldest and certainly the most charming off-road triathlon in the world takes place every year on the last Saturday in April at Treasure Beach, on the south coast of Jamaica.
With 300 m of swimming, 25 km of mountain biking and 7 km of running, it is a relatively short triathlon, but on uneven terrain. The best part: the profit from participation fees goes towards social projects for the community living at Treasure Beach (www.jakeshotel.com).

TMRW TDAY Culture Fest (April 28 - May 3, 2020).
The event is being held for the fourth time at Negril, "capital of casual".
During a long weekend there will be yoga, wellness and spiritual awareness sessions on the white sand beach of Seven Mile Beach.
Health, gastronomy, alternative programs and music will accompany this day (www.tmrwtday.com).

Jamaica Ocho Rios Jazz Festival (June 7-14, 2020).
Jamaicans love music - not just reggae.
Jazz is also very popular.
The oldest of the Caribbean jazz festivals takes place in different places, mainly in Ochos Rios, but also in Kingston (www.ochoriosjazzja.com).

Boston Jerk Festival (June 26 - 27, 2020).
One of the most famous culinary specialties of Jamaica is undoubtedly the "Jerk", a marinated meat, very spicy, grilled over a wood fire.
This preparation has its origin in the eastern part of the island.
At the Boston Jerk Festival, which takes place in the village of Boston east of Port Antonio, there is jerk in all forms - including side dishes and hot sauces (www.bostonjerkfest.com).

Reggae Sumfest (July 12-18, 2020).
Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay, which since 1993 has inspired fans of good music from all over the world, is the largest reggae festival in the Caribbean.
We not only play the traditional roots-reggae, but also the most modern dance hall “riddims” are part of the program.
In addition to the big names in Jamaican music, international stars of different genres such as R’n’B, Hip Hop or Soul are present (www.reggaesumfest.com).
